Reelly

Reviews and discovery for Nollywood and African film.

Reelly interface

The Problem

IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes barely cover this catalogue. Reelly is built around African cinema as the main event, not a sidebar genre.

Architecture

Next.js 15 App Router with SSR/ISR

AWS Lambda microservices (12+ modules)

MongoDB Atlas with Cognito auth

SST + CDK multi-stage deployments

Engineering Decisions

Why Taste Match instead of a generic recommendation feed?

It compares your ratings to people you already trust on a few dimensions. 'Should I watch this?' is answered from that overlap, not from a black-box average.

What can studios change?

They can submit titles, reply to reviews, and see per-title stats. The API only allows edits on whitelisted fields. Scores, slugs, and core metadata stay with the platform.

Locales?

Seven languages including Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Nigerian Pidgin, plus RTL Arabic for UI. Film audio stays as released.
